Volunteer
My volunteer work for Ipswich River has been tremendously satisfying. I make a difference with my own two hands, and I can see the difference I make with my own two eyes.”
–Bill Whiting, IRWA Volunteer
Volunteering for the Ipswich River Watershed Association is a great way to make a difference, learn new skills, and make new friends. No matter how much time you are willing to give, we have an opportunity for you!
If you like to be outside, we need field volunteers for:
- RiverWatch monitoring (when a vacancy arises)
- Herring count
- Macroinvertebrate (Bugs!) Monitoring
- Stream continuity surveys
- Join a Stream Team!
If you prefer to volunteer inside, we need your help to:
- Organize our volunteers
- Provide general office support
- Enter data
- Help with selected events and mailings
If you are a people person, you can volunteer to help our recruiting efforts:
- Helping to spread the word by staffing an IRWA information table at fairs, farmers’ markets, and other community events
- Helping IRWA to build its membership base by sending us 10 names and addresses of people in your community who you think would be likely supporters of IRWA’s work
If you are a high school student:
- Support spring herring count and assist with data entry and analysis
- Help with other ongoing projects such as our photo tour of the watershed, recreation guide, etc.
Project ideas for research internships at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level are available here.
